Jacek Muzyk

Jacek Muzyk was born and raised in Poland. He began playing piano at the age of 7. Although he became a proficient jazz pianist by his late teens, he began to study French horn intensively at the age of 18.

After graduation from the Academy of Music in Krakow, where Krzysztof Penderecki served as rector, Mr. Muzyk completed another masters degree through a full scholarship at the Mannes College of Music in New York studying with David Jolley, the famous soloist.

He received further education at the famous Juilliard School of Music also with a full scholarship, then continued studying at Rice University in Houston (TX) with the reknowned William VerMeulen.

Following his studies Mr. Muzyk returned to Poland, working full time with the best polish orchestras, namely, Sinfonia Varsovia, the National Philharmonic of Warsaw, the Krakow Philharmonic among others.

In 1999 he was chosen as the principal horn for Krystian Zimerman`s Polish Festival Orchestra, a select group of Poland`s finest musicians, which toured Europe and the United States playing over 40 performances of Chopin`s concertos, while winning a Grammy Award.

In 2002, Mr. Muzyk moved to the United States where he played with the Houston Grand Opera and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra before being appointed as the principal horn with the Buffalo Philharmonic.

He has made guest appearances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and other orchestras in the USA, Japan, South America and Europe and has appeared as guest soloist as well. Mr. Muzyk has given numerous masterclasses and recitals throughout all continents and has made several solo recordings under the Polish Radio label.

Recently he, as soloist, recorded a CD featuring all four Mozart concertos(recently released by Naxos), and another CD with Bach cello suites in transcryption for French horn.
