Dana Marbach, soprano

The Israeli soprano Dana Marbach has performed different operatic roles in opera houses in Israel & abroad. In Italy she sang, among others, the role of Zerlina ("Don Giovanni") in Teatro Massimo (Palermo) and the Heavenly Voice ("Don Carlo") in Teatro di San Carlo, Napoli. In the Israeli Opera she sang the role of Melisse ("Armide"/Gluck), and the Heavenly Voice ("Don Carlo"). She has sung under the baton of different opera conductors, among which Gabriele Ferro, Asher Fisch, Sebastien Rouland etc.

Among her most recent stage engagements: the roles of Joy, The Lady, Sheperdess in "Don Quixote" (Purcell & Eccles) in the Cite de la Musique, Paris; and those of Belinda and Peace in a world exclusive production of "Dido & Aeneas 1700" (Purcell, Eccles) - both productions with the New London Consort under the baton of Philip Pickett. She also sang the roles of Diana and Dori in "La Pastorale a Sanssouci"- a fully staged production of solo & duo baroque cantatas with the "I Confidenti" ensemble, performed in the Schlosstheater im Neuen Palais, Sanssouci, Potsdam.

Graduate of the Israeli Opera Young Artists Program ("Opera Studio") in which she has sung many operatic roles, among which Pamina, Papagena, Amor, Barbarina, Serpina and more. She has also sung the role of Aeneas in a female-only production of Purcell`s "Dido & Aeneas", a co-production of the Israeli Opera Studio and the Junge Oper of the Staatsoper Stuttgart. In 2006 she sang the leading role of Susanna in a production of "Le nozze di Figaro" with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra.

Dana Marbach also performs regularly as a concert soloist in Israel as well as around Europe. Among her recent concert engagements - the soprano parts in "Israel in Egypt" (Handel) under the baton of Laurence Cummings with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra; Coffee Cantata (Bach) with the Berliner Symphoniker Orchester, under the baton of Lior Shambadal, in the Kammermusiksaal der Philharmonie, Berlin; "Messiah" (Handel) in the Styriarte Festival in Graz, Austria, under the baton of Roy Goodman; a Schubert Lieder recital in the Tel Aviv Museum of Arts, Israel; and a recital of "Italienisches Liederbuch" (Hugo Wolf) in Berlin.

Upcoming engagements include, among others: the soprano part in the B Minor Mass (J.S.Bach) with the Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester, conducted by Philip Pickett (Denmark, 2-4.4.09; for more info : www.sdjsymfoni.dk/SEEEMS/5692.asp); and the role of Atalanta in a concert performance of "Xerxes" (Handel) with the `BerlinClassicPlayers` conducted by Ulrich Riehl (Kammermusiksaal der Philharmonie, Berlin, 15.4.09; for more info : www.berlinclassicplayers.de).

Winner of various scholarships, granted by the Ronen Foundation; the America-Israel Cultural Foundation; the Israel Vocal Arts Institute (IVAI); the Buchmann-Heiman Foundation; and the Sidonia Bercovich scholarship.

She is currently completing a Master`s Degree in Art Song Studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg with the Israeli pianist Dan Deutsch, where they specialize in this field as a duo, under the guidance of Lied pianist Burkhard Kehring. Among her teachers in the past and current years: Marina Levitt, Efrat Ben-Nun, Abbie Furmansky, John Norris and Thomas Michael Allen.
